In a recent development, the kidnapped students and staff of Apostolic Faith Group of Schools in Emure Ekiti have been successfully freed. Confirmation from the Ekiti State Police Command Spokesperson, Sunday Abutu, on Sunday morning revealed the unfortunate news that the driver did not survive the ordeal.

The release of the abductees occurred in the early hours of Sunday. They were initially kidnapped on Monday evening along Emure – Eporo Road while returning to Eporo after the school closed.

Reports indicate that the kidnappers opened fire on the bus, subsequently abducting nine individuals, including five students, three female teachers, and the driver. The police PPRO stated, "All victims were rescued today at about 1.30 am, but unfortunately, we lost the driver who was suspectedly killed by the abductors."

An official from Emure Ekiti, confirming the release, mentioned, "The abductees are here, the parents and family members are here. I will give you details shortly." Additionally, a source revealed that officials from the state Ministry of Health were present to transport them to Ado Ekiti, the state capital, for medical attention.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State had assured parents and families on Saturday that the kidnapped pupils and staff would soon be rescued and reunited with their loved ones.
