Truck crushes man to death

A tragic incident unfolded on Saturday morning at Mile 12 Market along Ikorodu Road in Lagos State as an unidentified man lost his life in a fatal collision with a containerized truck. The driver of the truck, bearing the number plate LSR 901 XV, reportedly lost control due to brake failure, resulting in the fatal accident.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) responded promptly, apprehending the articulated truck driver involved in the incident. The collision occurred on the main carriageway near Mile 12 Market, heading towards Ketu along Ikorodu Expressway. The unfortunate incident involved a 16-tyre articulated truck of the 'DAF' make and a scavenger pushing a wheelbarrow.

While LASTMA officers managed to rescue the victim alive from the accident scene, the individual succumbed to injuries shortly after. Preliminary investigations indicated that the driver lost control at high speed due to brake failure, colliding with the scavenger on the main carriageway towards Ketu, Lagos.

Following the tragic outcome, a group of miscreants and thugs attacked the truck driver. The swift intervention of LASTMA officials, supported by security personnel, ensured the rescue of the driver from the violent situation. He was subsequently taken to the Ketu Police Divisional Headquarters.

In response to the incident, Mr. Bakare-Oki Olalekan, the General Manager of LASTMA, appealed to market leaders to conduct regular safety enlightenment campaigns. He emphasized the dangers associated with using wheelbarrows to transport goods or food items along highways in the state.

This unfortunate event highlights the critical need for ongoing safety awareness and measures on Lagos roads to prevent such tragic accidents in the future.
