Residents and stakeholders in Kwara State express alarm as the cost of a bag of cement skyrockets to N6,200, witnessing a significant spike from the previous week's range of N5,000 to N5,200. This sudden surge creates distress for distributors and retailers who grapple with heightened demand amid a cement scarcity in the region.

Hajia Lateefat Abdullahi, owner of Orire Cement, voices exasperation, highlighting the challenges of acquiring supplies from distributors to meet customer demands in Ilọrin. Retailers, including Nasiru Babatunde, find it challenging to fulfill orders, leading to frustration among customers who have made advance payments.

Prominent distributor Olatunji Ayantola sheds light on factors contributing to the cement price increase, citing BUA's N750 increment and anticipated adjustments from Dangote. He explains that previous market fluctuation, inflation, and scarcity due to delivery issues have also played a role.

The situation leaves uncertainties in the market, but some hope for stabilization in the coming weeks. Disappointment arises among customers who had anticipated a significant price drop following BUA's announcement to sell at N3,500 per bag last year.
