House of Representatives Calls for Reinforcement of Security in Plateau and Ekiti Amid Escalating Violence
In response to the escalating violence in Plateau and Ekiti states, the House of Representatives has issued a call for increased security measures, urging top military and police officials to deploy additional personnel to the affected areas. The resolution was prompted by motions of urgent public importance presented by Ishaya Lalu and Akin Rotimi, representing Bokkos/Mangu and Ikole/Oye Federal Constituencies, respectively.

Lalu, the Deputy Chairman of the Committee on House Services, brought attention to a recent attack in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, resulting in significant casualties, property destruction, and the displacement of around 20,000 people. The House has called on the Chief of Defence Staff to establish a Civilian Joint Task Force in Plateau State and initiate an investigation into the causes of recurrent terrorist attacks in specific local government areas.
In a parallel motion, Rotimi, also the Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, highlighted the surge in criminal activities in the Ikole/Oye Federal Constituency of Ekiti State. He mourned recent losses, including two traditional rulers, emphasizing the urgent need for heightened security measures. The House has urged the Chief of Army Staff to redeploy military personnel to the affected area, directed relevant security agencies to deploy additional personnel, and called for a swift investigation into recent criminal acts.
Furthermore, the lawmakers have called upon the Ministry of Works and the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency to promptly rehabilitate the dilapidated Ayedun to Irele road and other roads in the affected Federal Constituency. The security agencies were also urged to take necessary measures to rescue abducted school children and teachers in Emure Ekiti.
