 Dismissal of Three Police Officers Over Armed Robbery in Ogun State, Nigeria

In a significant move, the Nigeria Police have taken action by dismissing three officers and a civilian driver over allegations of armed robbery and extortion in Ogun State. The dismissed officers, identified as Inspector Taiwo Kolawole, Inspector John Ogbe, and Cpl Idowu Sunday, were attached to the Ijebu-Ife division.

The development unfolded as the suspects were paraded alongside 27 others suspected of various crimes, including kidnapping, armed robbery, and cult activities, at the state headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta on Tuesday.

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Abiodun Alamutu, revealed that the dismissal followed a report by a student, Kashimao Emmanuel, from Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Ijebu-Ode. Emmanuel reported an incident where he was accosted by four armed men, one of whom wore a police outfit, while driving a Toyota Venza.

Alamutu detailed, "In the process, one of them fired a shot into the air and that was when he complied. They entered his car and took him away towards Sagamu expressway. On getting to Ososa, they made a U-turn to Ijebu-Ode, where a sum of N300,000 was forcefully transferred from his account to Opay account number 9097829766."

Following an investigation, two additional complainants, who were victims at different times, identified the suspects. Alamutu stated that the officers underwent disciplinary proceedings and were subsequently dismissed, with plans to charge them to court in the near future.

The police commissioner also disclosed the recovery of six rifles, 10 rounds of live ammunition, one AK-47 rifle with six rounds of ammunition, and a Toyota Camry from the arrested suspects.
